With our keynote speaker, The Honorable Eleanor Holmes Norton
Our 3rd Annual Visible Voices signature event will take place on Wednesday, September 25th, 6:00-9:00pm, at Busboys & Poets on 14th & V Streets, NW, in Washington, DC.
This year’s theme is Rise Together, inspired by the power in each of us to share our stories, our strengths, and our struggles in the service of lifting up others. With keynote speaker Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, we will celebrate 50 years of service to our community and the work that lies ahead.
This year, CFLS celebrates half a century of working tirelessly to serve the needs of Washington, D.C.’s most vulnerable citizens. In 2015, under the leadership of newly appointed Executive Director Ashley McSwain, LGSW, MSOD, Community Family Life Services expanded our mission to include holistic community reentry services for women returning home from periods of incarceration. Our clients are women seeking healing, redemption, and a second chance at life – a life that for many requires a “village approach” and support to overcome the trauma of poverty, homelessness, abuse, domestic violence, and mental health issues.
CFLS and our clients, supporters, board, staff, and special guests will “Rise Together” to celebrate the strength and resilience of these women with our 3rd Annual Visible Voices Celebration and Fundraiser. You will hear the powerful voices and stirring words of women for whom this year’s theme is not just a rallying cry but a way of living and connecting with others, a mantra for survival and success that defines their path forward to a brighter future.

Performer
Gloria Tyndle, Singer/Songwriter
Gloria (A.K.A. Vinomiss Black) is a song writer and artist who has converted her life experiences into a musical journey. She takes listeners into a world of realities that deliver messages of fortitude and the obstacles a person may endure to conquer adversity, including domestic violence, addiction, and incarceration. Instead of disregarding her past, she says, she has "converted it into sounds that describe the paths she has taken and the wisdom that was gained from those experiences."
